Monterey

17 Mile Drive
Mario and Jenny's engagement pictures were taken on 17 Mile Drive. Pack a picnic lunch before entering the toll road to eat on the beach and enjoy breathtaking views. There's no bad time to visit.

Monterey Bay Aquarium
Great fun for adults and kids alike! Plenty of places to eat in the vicinity of the aquarium.

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Jenny and Mario spent their first “date-aversary” in Santa Cruz! The Boardwalk is a carnival-like amusement park and arcade right next to the beach.

South Bay/The Peninsula

Mount Hamilton Observatory

The Tech Museum
Another fun activity for adults and kids.

Computer History Museum

Half Moon Bay
Small-town coastal charm not too far from the big cities.

Livermore/Pleasanton

Livermore Wine Trolley

John Mitchell's Favorite Local Wineries

Oakland/Alameda

USS Hornet
John Mitchell was stationed on this ship during his time in the Navy. It was decommissioned in 1970, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991, and has been a Sea, Air and Space museum in Alameda since 1998.

Rosenblum Cellars (another John Mitchell Favorite)

Rock Wall Wine Company
Tasty wine and food with a view of the San Francisco skyline.

San Francisco

Scoma's
This was John Mitchell's absolute favorite restaurant in all of San Francisco. The menu recently underwent a change and no longer has some of his old favorites, but it's still one of the best seafood places in town. Reservations recommended, valet parking.

House of Prime Rib
If you're not a big seafood lover, check out the House of Prime Rib, John Mitchell's second-favorite San Francisco restaurant. Reservations strongly recommended, valet parking.

Pier 39
It is Mitchell Family Tradition to head down to Pier 39 after dinner to shop and walk off all the calories from the delicious meal you just ate. Walk to the end for a great view and to talk to the sea lions, and before you leave, get a bucket of Trish's Mini Donuts. City parking lot across the street, or on Muni streetcar line F.

Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39
Want to visit an aquarium without going all the way to Monterey? Check out this smaller one adjacent to Pier 39! Jenny and Mario came here for his birthday in 2013.

Ghiradelli Square
Not far from Pier 39, if you prefer ice cream sundaes to donuts, head north and west a few blocks.

California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco
Be sure to go up to the "living roof" for its open-air, 360-degree view.

The Walt Disney Family Museum
An amazing look back at Walt and Disney's animation innovations. Another part of Jenny and Mario's first “date-aversary” in 2014 was spending a day in San Francisco, including a visit to the museum.

Industrial Light and Magic
If you're in that part of town (the Presidio), stop by the ILM San Francisco office and say hello to (the statue of) Yoda!

Golden Gate Bridge
Walk or bike the 1.7 miles across the Golden Gate Bridge. If you don't want to cross the bridge, Baker Beach to the west and Crissy Field to the east offer excellent views of it. If you choose to drive across, go northwest into the Marin Headlands for a spectacular view from higher up.

Marin

Muir Woods
Just 11 miles north of San Francisco is Muir Woods, a national monument and state park full of redwoods and wheelchair-accessible walking, hiking, and biking trails.

Local Sports

Oakland A's
The A's host the Seattle Mariners Thursday, April 20th - Sunday, April 23rd. Oakland Coliseum is easily accessible via BART.

San Francisco Giants
Watch the Giants face the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in their first meeting of 2017, Monday, April 24th - Thursday, April 27th. AT&T Park is reachable by public transportation, and also happens to be where Mario and Jenny had their first date, four years to the day before their wedding date.

If there are Warriors or Sharks games at this time of year, they would be post-season matchups.
